How Was the Name Attakulla Chosen?

Attakulla “One who fits things nicely together”

The name Attakulla Ranch was chosen to reflect a meaningful connection between our roots in the Southeast and our love for the land and history of the American West.

Nicole’s family ties to the Cherokee County, Georgia area and its connection to the history of the Trail of Tears, combined with our deep appreciation for the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia and North Carolina, inspired us to find a name with significance. As we developed our ranch property in Wyoming, its proximity to Cherokee Peak added another connection between the places that mean so much to us.

Attakulla is a Cherokee name associated with Mount Mitchell, the highest peak in the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina. The elevation of Mount Mitchell also carries a special connection to the high-elevation landscape of our Wyoming ranch land.

The name became even more fitting as we learned of the Cherokee presence and historic travel routes associated with the Cherokee Peak area of Wyoming. Together, these connections brought the Southeast and the West together—the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia and North Carolina, Cherokee history, and the open country of Wyoming.

From those connections, a name emerged that represents our appreciation for the land, its history, and the places that helped shape our vision.
