Walt’s Pond, NC

Walt’s Pond is a 40 acre piece of land in southeastern Union County, North Carolina. Our family was able to purchase this property on April 10th, 2026.  

This land belonged to the late Walter Vachel Carnes who passed June 3rd, 2025.

Now part of Attakulla Ranch, we strive to keep Walt’s legacy alive. He loved this land consisting of a 5 acre pond, 20 acres of woods, hay fields and farmed agricultural land.

July 24th, 2026 Walt’s Pond division of Attakulla Ranch was accepted into the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, Wildlife Conservation Program. This amendment was accepted by the Union County, NC Tax Assessors Office.

The Grigg Family is dedicated to working on a plan with the NC Wildlife Commission on maintaining a healthy habitat for wildlife here in Union County.

We will be adding wood duck boxes around the pond and song bird boxes around the fields / woods. In addition to the NC Wildlife Commission, the property also joined the National Wildlife Federation and the NC Wildlife Federation / Union County Wildlife Chapter.
